"I Survived Ebola" - The Stories of Four

It is possible to contract the deadly Ebola hemorrhagic fever and still survive it. There have been several individuals who have been fortunate to live to tell the tales of how they survived Ebola

Ashoka Muko is a freelance journalist and cameraman who covered the Ebola outbreak in Liberial for NBC and other outlets. As he witnessed several families get destroyed by the illness, he least expected that he too would fall victim to Ebola. Here is his story.

"My own battle with Ebola began with a slight body ache on Oct. 1. For weeks, any small pain had made me uneasy, but I had chosen to trust the precautions that I was taking...

One night, I felt an unusual ache and stopped at my apartment for a quick check: I watched the thermometer tick upward and eventually stop at 101.3. With no other discernible symptoms, I knew that the most likely explanation for a fever that high was Ebola. Fear enveloped me.

Once I tested positive for the Ebola virus, I was admitted into the Doctors Without Borders facility in Monrovia, where around 150 Liberian Ebola patients were being treated....For four days, I lay on my mat in the large white tent, wondering if I would make it home."....read more

"It all started with a severe headache and a fever. Then, later, I began to vomit and I got diarrhoea. My father was ill and my mother too. My niece, my fiancé and my sister had also all fallen sick. We all felt helpless.

It was my uncle who first contracted the virus in our family. He contracted it from a woman he helped take to hospital. He got sick and called our father for help, and our father went to him to bring him to a hospital for treatment. A few days after our father came back, he too got sick. We all cared for him and got infected too. This is the way the virus works, person by person, cutting through families."...read more

"I tried to be positive - I was thinking about death, but deep inside I thought my time had not come yet and I would get over it. That's how I overcame the pain and the fear.
Doctors from the charity Medecins Sans Frontiers (MSF) were here to comfort me and give their moral support. I tried to stay positive although I was scared when I saw my relatives dying in front of me.
There was a moment when I thought I might die when I lost two of my uncles and their bodies were taken away.

Human DNA in hot dogs, meat in vegetarian dogs

Source: berksfoods.com A new report brings to light that your hot dog or veggie dog may have an unintended "special ingredient" – human DNA. Clear Food , a food-analysis company, tested 345 hot dogs and sausages. T he report shows that human DNA was present in 2% of the products examined. Furthermore, "Two-thirds of the human DNA samples were vegetarian samples". The report goes on to say that researchers found traces of meat in 10 percent of the "vegetarian" products.
